since there is a beta 1.7.9 I think it will be released some day

#2 Re: Future » Can I still image with DS using a Mac Mini with a Fusion Drive? » 2018-04-04 09:51:16

I have the same result as Joon with an APFS-image.
restoring a 10.13.4 HFS-image works fine with a 10.13.4-netbootset.

#4 Re: Future » APFS, the end of imaging and the future of DS? » 2017-09-05 14:22:14

so imaging is not dead!
and neither is DeployStudio...

From the Release Notes of DS 1.7.7:

– new server security option to allow third party apps to add computers to the DeployStudio database using the DeployStudio Server web services.

Does anyone know how to add a computer via this method? I do not see it in the documentation...

#6 Re: Install » build v1.7.7 cannot create bootable NetBoot Set » 2017-09-05 13:54:05

I had no problems creating a 10.12-NetBootSet, everything boots fine. Same for 10.13...

hi smr1619 (nice name!),

I use dockutil ( in combination with Outset (

#8 Re: Usage » Update netboot set and upgrade » 2017-02-24 11:27:55

My experience is as follows:
-when I created the previous .nbi on the NetBoot-server, the update works fine: the nbi's are updated to the latest version
-when the previous nbi is created on another Mac and uploaded to the NetBoot-server, the update fails.
However, I think it is a good idea to create a fresh NBI regularly...

#9 Re: Future » APFS, the end of imaging and the future of DS? » 2017-02-01 16:58:00

I know the future is DEP/MDM, but that does not mean imaging will be cut-off directly.

i.e Cron has been declared deprecated and replaced by launchdeamons in OS X 10.4 but it still works!

#10 Re: Future » APFS, the end of imaging and the future of DS? » 2017-02-01 15:36:17

Perhaps Apple installs the original macOS on a Mac the same way as they do now with iOS on an iPhone/iPad. Does anyone know how they do that?

Personally, I think imaging will stay for a while on the Mac...

#11 Re: Debug » Netboot 10.12.2 issues? » 2017-01-07 18:00:12

The combination TB3 —> TB2 + TB —> Ethernet (both Apple) works good and fast, see my post in

#12 Re: Usage » Macbook 2016 Netboot issues? » 2017-01-05 16:24:40

Perhaps you should create a netboot-set from a VM.
My first MBP 13" Touch Bar arrived today. The deployment with DS 1.7.5 (NetBoot 10.12.2 created from a VM) and an AutoDMG (1.7.3) 10.12.2-image worked flawless.
For Ethernet I used USB-C —> USB-A + USB —> Ethernet (both Apple), since this is only 100 MBit, the process took a while...

I just enrolled the same MacBook with TB3 —> TB2 + TB —> Ethernet (Apple), this works fine as well (and a lot quicker ;-)

Works perfectly!

#14 Re: Usage » Imaging Late 2016 MacBook Pros » 2016-11-30 11:25:08

Yesterday I created a (DS 1.7.5) NBI from a 13” MBP (no-TouchBar); first 10.12 (16A2323a), later 10.12.1(16B2657). Both gave me the no-entry sign when trying to boot the same machine from it.
However at the third try the MBP actually booted from the 10.12.1-NBI and imaged fine. Most of the DS-screens were very sluggish .
i think it is time for a DS 1.7.6

I use USB-C --> USB-A connected to USB --> Ethernet (both from Apple), works fine.

#15 Re: Usage » Limit to the Number of Boot Sets? » 2016-07-21 22:59:26

no idea what the maximum number of NetBootsets is, but I have had 4 and even 5 without a problem. It looks like you have another problem

#16 Usage » why a profile to bind to AD? » 2016-04-06 08:25:55

I really like DeployStudio but I have a question: Why use a AD-binding-profile that can be removed by everyone?
When a user (accidentally) removes the profile, the Mac is unbound from the AD and the AD-user can no longer log in to the Mac.
Before the profile, DS 1.7.2 and earlier, a user had no right to remove an AD-binding: you had to go to 'System Preferences', 'Users & Groups' or 'Directory Access', which is only accessible by admins.

#17 Re: Debug » AD configuration profile for OS X 10.11 not setting options correctly » 2016-04-05 12:20:57

The AD-binding works again with the new build, but it is still done with a profile...

#18 Usage » Back to one NetBoot-set thanks to DS 1.7.3 » 2016-04-01 11:19:59

In DS 1.7.0, 1.7.1 and 1.7.2 i had two netboot-sets:
-one 10.10.x-set for older machines, like my 2010 iMac
-one 10.11.x-set for the newer machines.

Older machines did start from a 10.11-set, but showed 'repository-access' messages and refused to install. On a 10.10-set, no 'repository-access' errors.
Newer machines never had 'repository-access' messages on a 10.11-set.

This morning I created a new 10.11.4 NetBoot-set with DS 1.7.3 and my 2010 iMac installs nicely from this set, no more 'repository-access' errors!

#19 Re: Debug » Solved - Repository Access Error OSX 10.11.3 DS 1.7.2 » 2016-02-26 23:37:50

Today I experienced the same problem: 'Repository Error' (OS X 10.11.3/DS 1.7.2).
After I walked through the "Setup a DeployStudio Server", the repository error disappeared.
Never seen the message before though...

#20 Re: Usage » System Version Mismatch... » 2016-01-20 13:46:01

OOPS, I was to soon. After a reboot RecoveryPartitionCreator works fine...

#21 Re: Usage » System Version Mismatch... » 2016-01-20 10:21:45

unluckily, Recoverypartitioncreator does not work with 10.11.3. It did perfectly until 10.11.2...

#22 Usage » NetBootSet 10.11.2 based on DS 1.7.1 much faster than before » 2015-12-19 11:15:50

Just installed DS 1.7.1 on my Server 5.0.15 (OS X 10.11.2) and created a new 10.11.2-NetBootSet.
It boots much faster than the previous-NBI, based on DS 1.7.0.

Thanks for the speed-improvement, admin!

#23 Re: Debug » Log window does not appear automatically in DS Runtime » 2015-12-18 16:40:09

It ís fixed in 1.7.1.
My logs are back, thanks admin!

#24 Re: Usage » System Version Mismatch... » 2015-12-15 07:48:00

No problem. However, you should thank MagerValp, he made Create-Recovery-Partition...

#25 Re: Usage » System Version Mismatch... » 2015-12-14 12:11:09

Hi Trikster,

The quickest way is the following:
-download recoverypartitionupdater from MagerValp:
-create the new recoveryPartion-installer
-install/update your existing Recoverypartition
-create a new NetBoot-set with the right RecoveryPartion-version

Another possibility is to re-download the El Capitan-installer from the App-Store and run the installer (on the disk you will use to as a base for creating the new netboot-set). This will also update your recovery-partition, but is more time-consuming.
